In a move that is a game-changer for console gaming, developers can now use their own engines, and it can be done with little effort.
That means the new games are going to look much better and feel much more polished than they do today.
“This new engine gives you a whole new level of flexibility and a whole different level of control,” says Rob Pardo, chief creative officer at developer Rammus.
“You can now write games for the console, you can write games in Unity, you know, for any platform.
So it really opens up a whole host of opportunities.”
The engine allows developers to create games for any hardware.
And if they want to build something with a platform that isn’t already on their platform, they can just write their own.
Rammus says it is now possible to build games on Windows 10 PCs, which will be released later this year.
One of the new features is a brand new engine that gives developers a lot of control.
“If you’ve got a game that has a platform on it, you don’t need to write it in any language whatsoever.
And you can do whatever you want with that platform.
And the platform itself doesn’t have to have anything in it,” he says.
“It can be a whole suite of games and the platform doesn’t even have to be a platform.
Rammus says developers will be able to “build anything you want” on the new engine.
The new engine lets them write “any platform” That also means it will allow them to write “anything you want”, says Pardo.
There is no limit to the number of games that can be made on the platform.
Rammans says the new game engine allows for “more than 100 different genres and a huge range of different game types.
It’s an incredible tool for game developers”.
“So you can now create games that are far, far, much more robust than ever.” “
The game engine really makes everything much easier and gives you the power to do things that you never would have previously had to do,” says Pardos.
“So you can now create games that are far, far, much more robust than ever.”
It is the start of a new era for console development and the move towards a platform-agnostic platform has created huge excitement among console gaming fans.
The games that Rammans is building are expected to have a “huge range” of content, but the studio also hopes to build “far more robust” games that “look fantastic”.
“The games we’ve built for the Xbox One and PS4 are absolutely incredible, and they look fantastic,” says Rammans.
Pardo says the next major milestone for console game development will be “some of the best games that have been ever made” on Xbox and PS platforms.
“When that happens, we’ll have a platform agnostic platform, and the future of console gaming will look very different.”
Rammans is also optimistic about the future.
“I think we’re going to see the kind of innovation that consoles have always had in the next five years,” he predicts.
“That is going to be amazing.
That is going, I think, to be one of the defining features of the next generation of consoles.”
